INDONESIA SPEARFISHING CHARTER: YEARLY TRADITION HUNTING FOR JACK AND SEAPERCH

It's our yearly tradition to go back to our favorite spot for Maori Seaperch and Mangrove Jack. Its the only place you see them together hidden in a cave together. Yesterday we started early and we had good visibility until lunch time. The result like we expected a lot of midget Maori Seapearch, Redbass, Mangrove jack, Rabbitfish, Bluefin Trevally, and few lobster.

Best seafood in the island of gods

1. Sea Urchin try gold banded snapper is cook with perfection. If you want to impress your gf or boss wife to fancy dining, this is the right place to go. Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2. Take japanese restaurant, if you miss out on lobster in bali. Try the fresh live lobster sashimi!  it melts in your mouth. Also dont forget to try mentis sashimi, sea urchin, belly salmon, grouper, snapper, and mackerel. Tuna i am not a big fan of the taste because is frozen ,its not fresh tuna. from my experience running bigeye tuna, southern bluefin and yellowfin long line business.Take is the best place to eat sashimi grade tuna and is quarantee the tuna is not CO treated like most japanese restaurant in Bali. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3. Laota i suggest you order the steam cod with soya sauce and prawn called "udang mabuk". The prawn are lived prawn boil and serve with deliious sauce.⭐️⭐️⭐️

4. Jimbaran seafood. The food is tasty, but the quality and grade of the fish is second grade fish that didnt pass export standard. You must choose carefully for the freshness of the fish for the best dining experience. I will stick with gold banded snapper, rosy snapper, bream, emperor and gold spot spinefoot. Avoid groupers, barramundi, trevally and all other fish. Lobster and prawn are over price, not fresh and its not worth it!! ⭐️⭐️

5. Duck king. You can eat fresh lived coral trout and sometime if you are lucky barramundi cod. Order the steam with soya sauce. Also dont forget to try the jellyfish. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Happy dining in Bali, and dont forget you pay for what you get. You go cheap you get bad quality, you pay well you get a good quality. There is not such place in this world you pay cheap for good quality food.

Happy new year 2014 Spearos around the world..

Nothing is better then ending the year 2013 with good friends and the surroundings of an untouched wilderness East Java. We were planning to go to an island located on the southern part of Java but was force to take refuged in the protected bay due to big swell, strong wind and current of Indian Ocean. The next day we were  bless with a good weather until new year eve which help us with a good catch A variety of different seafood. We cought enough fish to bring home, mud crab, squid, and lobster. I would say it was one of our best adventure trip and to be remembered.

A Simple Way for Catching Lobsters with a Wire Lasso

Bad experience with Moray eel while catching lobsters encouraged me to look for a solution to this problem. Here is a way to avoid those nasty Moray eel and catch lobsters the safest way. It is a very easy and it only takes less than 30 minutes to assemble a practical wire lasso to overcome this problem.  Most of the components for building this wire lasso are available at any fishing shop and aluminum workshop.

Parts:

·         100 cm aluminum rod / old coat hanger

·          2 Rubber stopper

·         65 cm nylon coated wire for the lasso

·         Aluminum clamp

·         70 cm aluminum hollow rod (15mm)

·         10 cm plastic thin tube (2mm)

·         35 cm rubber tube (10mm)

Tools:

·         Pliers

·         Hammer

·         Nail

·         Candle

·         pincers

Construction step by step:

Step 1.

Make 2 sizes holes in both ends of the rubber stoppers by using 2 different size nails.  Make the hole with the small nail at the end of the aluminum rod for the running lasso and a bigger nail for the other end of the aluminum rod to stop the handle at the right place. Heat up the two nails onto a candle to make the two size holes on the rubber stoppers at both ends of the hollow rod.

Step 2.

Flatten with a hammer one end of the aluminum rod 2cm from its end a make a small hole with a nail big enough so that the coated nylon wire can go through.

Step 3.

Insert the 10 cm plastic thin tube (2mm) into the nylon coated wire and then get both ends of the coated nylon wire through the rubber stopper; the same procedure is done for the clamp. The diameter of the running lasso should be at least between 10 and 12 cm. The two ends of the nylon coated wires must go through the hole in opposite directions and the both ends enter the clamp again so that they can finally be clamped using a pincer.

Step 4.

Insert the rubber stopper at the handle end of the hollow aluminum rod, insert the rod through the hole of the rubber stopper, and finally insert the rubber tube by oiling it so that it can easily go through the rod.

I designed the lasso so that lobsters can be cached responsibly. That is the reason why the lasso can only be close to a certain diameter to avoid catching small size lobsters. Please it is important to respect the fishing law of the amount and size. Release lobsters with eggs because every year the same lobsters go to the same hole. So maybe the next trip you can catch the same lobster without eggs. This tool also benefits keep your lobstesr alive and fresh for your love one at home.

Annual trip to east java with good friends and family

It has come to that part of the year where we make our annual trip to our favorite place at East Java. We never get disappointed and always guarantee with fresh seafood from our doorstep. Day one good size mangrove jack, Trevally, and Peacock grouper. The next day more mangrove jack and trevally and ofcourse lobsters to complete the trip. Overall it was a good relaxing trip with good friend and family.

We are also very fortunate to be able to see an abandon wildlife at the national park, such as the mysterious wild buffalo (Banteng), Javanese wild cat, horn-bill, thousand of Timor deer, peacock, gibbon and tons of macaque monkeys

Friday the 13th – West Bali

Catch of the day = 3 Lobsters + 1 Rabbit Fish + 1 Trevally + 1 Grouper – 3 Mobile phone – 2 Wallets – 4 ATM cards – 2 Credit cards – 2 driving licenses – 1 ID - 2 Board shorts and - a lot of nerves!

Well that’s what we call statistics.. It all started with a drive down to the Bukit not too much traffic some good nasi bunkus on the way and an absent peter because of “higher influences”.

Finally made our way down to the spot and once we swam beyond the reef we found out there was almost no visibility. And when I say no visibility I mean less than 3m sight with super murky green/yellow ish colored water.

After swimming up and down the reef for what felt like an eternity Arvid managed to locate a cave full of Lobsters where he managed to shoot three decent sized ones.
As there was almost no visibility all we could do was just hide somewhere between the rocks and hope that some fish would cross our paths which towards the end luckily happened and made us at least catch a good dinner.

Walking back up the cliff and being all excited about getting back and cooking up what we just shot we had to make a super annoying discovery.. Some mother….er managed to open the car and steal everything we left behind! Being in Bali and believing that this island is one of the most spiritual places on earth we can just hope karma will get to whoever did this! And if karma decides to not get back to him then at least prostate cancer or something similar to that!

After a super frustrating drive back from the Bukit through the thriving traffic of Bali we finally made it back home to prepare some lovely lobster pasta accompanied by a good bottle of Scotch.

And the moral of the story: As long as you have a good bottle of scotch and loads of lobster even the most frustrating day can turn into satisfaction.

Most Expensive lobsters and fishies

Last weekend Luc and i went to my all time fave place to shoot in the south (bukit area), it's not a fantastic fishing ground yet some perseverance and patience always pays off in the end. We checked the forecast, and the tide difference was only 0.6 m swell height is 3 ft so we were pretty certain water is gonna be clear beautiful sunny blue sky, soon as we enter the water visibility turns out quite bad at around 4 meter at the most.

After around five hrs in the water with limited visibility i started to go inside every rocks checking any possibilities for big grouper, mangrove jack, scribble snapper, and finally good ol' lobsters.. Results were :  3 lobsters and a rabbit fish, luc followed with grouper and on the way in a trvally.

It wasn't bad at all to be honest its also good to know that the lobsters are still there, and i did spotted few big grouper over 8 kilos inside those rocks, but they're way to cheeky to hunt without a spotlight.

climbing up the rocks back into the car ready to grab our phone to take shots of our catch, we got the big surprise some F*&$!! had broken into the car and nick 3 cell phones 4atm cards, 2 credit cards, id and licenses, even towel and my boardshort!!!! it is the first time it happens after 5 yrs spearfishing at this empty beach, it was really annoying!!! but at least the lobsters and fish were great meals...

Lesson learnt: as uncle peter said w his post of fishing superstitious do not fish on friday its bad omen, it was Friday the 13th Anyway hahahah...!!

West Bali 24th September

New moon, water was murky visibility 4 meter, and no fish accept for small Rabbit-fish in school of thousands. I felt like i was in the middle of a bait-ball.

Start looking for lobster in usual place and all the hole is empty. Just realize and the big boat in padang padang they are not resting until the sun goes down. They brought smaller boat on board for a purpose. They were there lobster hunting, using chemical and then dive down to pick it up, they also target reef fish and catch it with nets. It explains why there is no fish. when i swim back  i found the only lobster, i catch it and i was shock that the lobster did not resist, i found out that the lobster is dead, no longer then a hour ago. i through the lobster to the closes Boat and said few local appropriate languages to send them a message that i am piss off!!

so no more lobster for another year. first is balangan and now is padang padang no lobster!!
