3 Day Spearfishing adventure with Anthony Hierro

myself and Anthony been discussing the trip few month ago and we both agree 3 day trip is best way to experience most of what Bali Underwater world have to offer.

Day 1 we went to North Bali to Hunt at the drop off reef. We manage to see few 5 star reef fish but it was a challenge to shoot them. One of my dive a school of 5-15 kg Giant trevally, I waited to see if there a nice trophy fish in the schoo but didnt see any. We drift with the current and saw big Midnight snapper, Redbass, Mori Seaperch and Bigeye Seabream but the current was not in our favor we couldn't hide on any spot to get them closer. 

The next spot we shot a good size Dogtooth Tuna , midnight snapper and Bluefin Trevally. It was good enough for the first day to have a good dinner. At night we have Dogtooth Caviche and midnight snapper pepes and sate.

The next day we went to Different spot and shot mangrove jack, Anthony miss a good size Spanish mackerel, we also got bluefin trevally and Giant Trevally. We also got Bigeye Sebream toward the end of the dive. We had another feast for Dinner at Anthony hotel, the owner prepare us amazing dinner.

Last day was epic. Never saw so many Spanish mackerel in one day. Firt spot we saw some GT and Spnaish mackerel but they kept their distance. The next spot John Shot Spanish mackerel, it was quiet murky and hard to spot them but john got lucky one spanish went straight toward him from underneath. The next spot we hunt at the reef and Anthony shot a good size flowery cod.  The next spot it was a war zone. I spotted a school of Spanish mackerel all around 10-15 kg size. Took a shot a miss. Not long after john got one and wahoo following after. Then Anthony finally got his first spanish mackerel after losing his first one the day before.

Epic Spearfishing trip with Legendary Brodie moss from YoungbloodSpearfishing

We all were happy that we have created a new Friendship between Spearo who enjoy and passionate of being in the water. We all believe that there is positive and negative impact toward spearfishing snd we promise each other that we will send the correct message to all the spears around the world to become a responsible diver. We met day before the trip discussing the possibility to go spearfishing and we connect so well that we decide to go out the next day and hunt in our backyard.

We went to East Bali and it was an epic Day. Broodie shot Barramundi cod, then not long after I shot wahoo, the next spot Hubert shot. Giant Trevally and last spot before we finish I shot 15 kg Group.

After the trip we went back Komune to Broodie Hotel and ate the Delicious Barramundi cod. The chef cooked it so well , it was amazing.

We met few time after the trip to have few beer and Hubert went out with Broodie and both of them got lucky hunting in the land. Til next trip Brother!

2 Day Trip with Shelby Denton

Day 1 

We start drift and collected few nice reef fish. First 2 hour we shot bluefin trevally, unicorn fish for edi and his family. 

Second spot it was quiet in the begining but then the fish become active. We shot seabream, red snapper and flowery cod. I lost longnose emperor due to a really bad shot.

After dive we ask the chef from the hotel to cook us our catch. It was amazing, the chef prepare fish sate, fish steam in a banana leaf and grilled seabream.

Day 2 

We visit the FAD aka Rumpon to hunt for mahi mahi and wahoo. We were outamart by the wahoo and mahi mahi due to the unfriendly ocean conditions. We saw lots of wahoo and mahi mahi but miss all the shot. It was good 30 min of thrills but better luck next time.

North west Bali 2 April 2012

During the afternoon at Grouper Farm

First Day In North west Bali, we stay a night at the grouper farm. We tried to catch fish around the farm but no luck. So we took 2 (500-700 gram) Baramundi and 1 good size grouper (800 gram flowery cod) for dinner. The meal was amazing, you cannot get fresher fish then that ( literally from the moment the fish was killed to the frying pan it was less then 3 minutes)


The next day we went to nearby FAD. First FAD the current was so strong that none of the pleagic fish was around. Very disspointing!! we move to more FAD and Nill!! all you see is small rainbow runner and amberjack. So we move to nearby reef next to the grouper farm, we saw nothing. So i decide to have fun with the school of Napoleon and few turtle.

The last spot was right next to the Bali National park. I saw a giant Barracuda, it was around 30-40 kg, it was swimming close to reef. But thank to arvid who decide to take a rest on my bouy i couldnt move and because i tried to pull the bouy it causes a lot of turbulance in the water and scare the barracuda. Thanks arvid, i will remember to put you on the D@#khead wall of fame.

We decided to cut the trip short and head back to Denpasar and wait for next week when the current slow down.

10/6/2010 Madura island ( oil rig)

Madura island was excellent, if you enjoy open water. forget the reef, near the fishing villages because there is nothing to see due to water condition is to merky. I manage to shot small mangrove-jack and saw a school of barramundi. The first oil rig was fill with thousand of jack fish, small grouper and lots of other fish. The second oil rig was the biggest oil rig. The moment i enter the water i was greeted by Giant trevally. i dive a choose the biggest from the group of 5. It was at least 20 kg and the fish just swam down and wrap around the oil rig column. but around was mackerel, queen fish and many more GT. so i quickly dive down try to get the fish out. but it was impossible it was so badly tangle that i decide to leave the spear with the fish. put a new spear and start shooting queen fish, trevally and mangrove jack. I wihs i could stayed longer but the strom was coming so fast to our direction. on the way back i was a heavy storm but it was worth it.

7/3/2009 first time at the scribbled snapper terittory

Rent a boat with Mr. Ketut at kedongan beach. We took a two-five minute boat trip to the spot there was school of fish eating frenzy. right away i jump and a shot a Blue trevally l. After the first shot, i was surrounded with hundred of them and  i wish I had another gun because the biggest one from the school swim 1 meter next to me.

remaining of the day was good, shot Flowery cod and scribbled snapper. The visibilty was poor during the day but toward the afternoon was better. thats when the scribbled snapper start coming out..
