3 Day Spearfishing adventure with Anthony Hierro

myself and Anthony been discussing the trip few month ago and we both agree 3 day trip is best way to experience most of what Bali Underwater world have to offer.

Day 1 we went to North Bali to Hunt at the drop off reef. We manage to see few 5 star reef fish but it was a challenge to shoot them. One of my dive a school of 5-15 kg Giant trevally, I waited to see if there a nice trophy fish in the schoo but didnt see any. We drift with the current and saw big Midnight snapper, Redbass, Mori Seaperch and Bigeye Seabream but the current was not in our favor we couldn't hide on any spot to get them closer. 

The next spot we shot a good size Dogtooth Tuna , midnight snapper and Bluefin Trevally. It was good enough for the first day to have a good dinner. At night we have Dogtooth Caviche and midnight snapper pepes and sate.

The next day we went to Different spot and shot mangrove jack, Anthony miss a good size Spanish mackerel, we also got bluefin trevally and Giant Trevally. We also got Bigeye Sebream toward the end of the dive. We had another feast for Dinner at Anthony hotel, the owner prepare us amazing dinner.

Last day was epic. Never saw so many Spanish mackerel in one day. Firt spot we saw some GT and Spnaish mackerel but they kept their distance. The next spot John Shot Spanish mackerel, it was quiet murky and hard to spot them but john got lucky one spanish went straight toward him from underneath. The next spot we hunt at the reef and Anthony shot a good size flowery cod.  The next spot it was a war zone. I spotted a school of Spanish mackerel all around 10-15 kg size. Took a shot a miss. Not long after john got one and wahoo following after. Then Anthony finally got his first spanish mackerel after losing his first one the day before.

South Bali Spearfishing Trip With Alex Drieihann-Holenia

South Bali is not only famous for all the amazing surf spot but it also the location for amazing underwater ecosystem. The terrain is perfect spot for Reef species, full of underwater canyon, cave, chanel and amazing rocks.

We can only access the southern part of Bali when the swell is small or else get ready to get scatches and bruise from the swell surge. All the fish are concentrate just behind the swell break. There is some spot that are quiet deep around 15-20 meter to hunt the famous green Jobfish.

First Spot we found school baitball on the surface and we suspect there is something hunting around it. Our instinct was correct. The first dive Alex shot a queenfish. Then i made the second dive. I was not to prepare to expect Giant , i am talking about massibe Bigeye seabream coming straight for me. As soon i move the Speargun the swim away. Not long after i when up for a breath and Spanish mackerel swim right underneath me, i quickly dive down and got a good shot.

After secure the spanish we couldn't find the bait fish anymore so we move to the next spot. The next spot we were played by the moari seaperch and few other reef fish. We couldn't get a good shot because most of the fish have rock behind it.

Third spot a good size spanish mackerel swim right next to me and i got a good shot. The last spot was the best one. While i was chumming using the guts and inside of all the fish we shot. Alex was in the water waiting for the famous green jobfish but instead 2 spanish mackerel swim for the chum. Alex couldn't get close enough to get a good shot.

Overall it was amazing trip with good condition to hunt in south. We cam home happy with fresh tasty fish for dinner.

David Giger trip 2 day Trip North Bali

It was our first time to go this part of North Bali. We heard a lot of good story from the past on all the spot we are going to go. There is one spot famous for Marlin and Sailfish. Drop off for Dogtooth Tuna and ofcourse popular spot for the spanish Mackerel to stopby before their journey to the Indian Ocean.

First Day we started at the reef, the spot is famous for spanish mackerel and reef fish. But we didn't see a lot life and not a single of bait fish. We drift and follow the current until we reach a spot full of bait fish on the surface. my First shot was A nice size maori seaperch. Then David shot few nice groupers. Toward the end of the day 12 kg Spanish mackerel swim toward me and i got a good shot.

The next day we went to drop off spots. It is well known for the Dogtooth Tuna and lots of variety of Pelagic. My first shot was 5 kg Midnight Snapper. There was so many of them so i just waited for the biggest out of the group. Then saw a lot maori Seaperch and redbass but they were keeping their distance. Then we drift and i manage to shot 9 kg Dogtooth tuna.

Then we contiune a drift and we found a spot with big school of GT, Blue fin Trevally, Golden trevally and my favorite longnose emperor. I ignore the Trevally but it was my biggest mistake because the schol of longnose was way out of range. I did few more dive but the school went back to the drop off to deep blue sea.

Then we contiune our drift and it payoff shot a good size Bigeye Seabream. Overall it was an epic 2 day adventure to new spot. Got a good bag of fish to bring home enough supply for a week of fine dining.

4 Day trip West Sumbawa Ahmed, Osama and Mohhamed

Traveling To Sumbawa is always fun because you encounter many surprise in Airport, fast boat or Ferry. You get a little preview of Lombok and Sumbawa from Land and Sea. Ahmed, Muhammad, and Osama was good group to Host. We share a lot of laughter, they are willing to try and go through adventure into Style. Back Home they are sitting at a office with a suit, in Sumbawa they are sitting behind a pick up traveling to the spot for spearfishing. They all thought me many thing about their culture and there experience spearfishing and free diving. Hopefully one day I will have the chance to visit them in Kuwait and dive again together.

2 Day Trip with Shelby Denton

Day 1 

We start drift and collected few nice reef fish. First 2 hour we shot bluefin trevally, unicorn fish for edi and his family. 

Second spot it was quiet in the begining but then the fish become active. We shot seabream, red snapper and flowery cod. I lost longnose emperor due to a really bad shot.

After dive we ask the chef from the hotel to cook us our catch. It was amazing, the chef prepare fish sate, fish steam in a banana leaf and grilled seabream.

Day 2 

We visit the FAD aka Rumpon to hunt for mahi mahi and wahoo. We were outamart by the wahoo and mahi mahi due to the unfriendly ocean conditions. We saw lots of wahoo and mahi mahi but miss all the shot. It was good 30 min of thrills but better luck next time.

On the Hunt

It was an awesome start to the day, the weather was good, but the forecast was saying lots of rain and thunderstorms, but we had luck. We prayed with our captain Edi at the temple for good weather, a nice catch and  a safe return.  Which worked well.
On the way to our spot we shared some stories and tactics how to target some species and the tips and tricks with gear. All spearos love to share their experiences.

Midnight Snapper

As we arrive by the spot and jumped in the Fish activity was amazing, slowly approching some caves i heard a shot, it was Josh trying to get a Bigeye Seabream. But unfortunetly we all know how hard it is to shot. I gave it a try to, due to problems with my roller gun i missed aswell.
I recently put a MVD roller head on my 1300 rob allen, but it is not performing so well.

As we continue diving the bay, I noticed that Harry was staying in one spot for a while,
i saw over him and looked that he shot something down there in the cave, i asked him what it was and he responded with that he does not know because it passed by quick and he landed a shot in the stomach.

But it went into the cave at a depth of around 15meters. So he decedet down and pulled it out. Luckly the visibilty was good at that time and i saw it being pulled out at first i thought its a Giant Trevally because it looked big but as we pull it up it becomes clear its a Midnight Snapper, we both we suprised how big it is, not thinking that it would be a possible world record, haha.
As we get on the boat to switch the spots Josh spotted few Maori Seaperch but with no luck.
On the Boat we did a huge mistake we threw out the guts of the midnight snapper because they where hanging out from the belly shot. If we would have had kept the guts it would end up in the record books.

So we moved to the next spot, and it was full of life, amazing diving that day ive went for some sweetlip snapper for our home barbeque party.
Josh spotted a Jobfish and landed it, a good sized Jobbie with around 3.5kg weight.
 Till now the quality was coming up and everyone was enjoying the day, the visibitly was great until we swapped for the last spot, it was turning tide and we had around 1 1/2h left of proper sunlight.

We dive along the edge and Josh did a dive right next to me , he followed the edge and i hear a shot and a fish just did the flip, a nice stoned deced sized mangrove jack around 5kg!!

Both of us where so excited , it was also his PB on that day, which ended up in an EPIC trip for both guys with Indospearfishing Charters !!

So we slowly decided to head home and hit another spot, but the sun was going down and the tides where wrong from that time and we quickly decided to head home.

We where so pumped on the catches that the day passed pretty quickly.

New Spearfishing video on the last month of April: Bali Indonesia

Last Week We had the opportunity to visit one of our favorite spots in Bali Indonesia. Is only accessible when the ocean swell is low and the visibility is crystal clear. Result Bigeye Seabream, Yellow lip Emperor,Trevally, Maori Seaperch, and Gold-Saddled Goatfish.
