This trip is Kevin Second time hunting the FAD. First FAD we saw few Mahi Mahi but after few shot the become to Shy. Second FAD there were smaller Mahi Mahi and we manage to shoot Enough for Kevin's BBQ inn his Villa.

4 Day trip West Sumbawa Ahmed, Osama and Mohhamed

Traveling To Sumbawa is always fun because you encounter many surprise in Airport, fast boat or Ferry. You get a little preview of Lombok and Sumbawa from Land and Sea. Ahmed, Muhammad, and Osama was good group to Host. We share a lot of laughter, they are willing to try and go through adventure into Style. Back Home they are sitting at a office with a suit, in Sumbawa they are sitting behind a pick up traveling to the spot for spearfishing. They all thought me many thing about their culture and there experience spearfishing and free diving. Hopefully one day I will have the chance to visit them in Kuwait and dive again together.

2 Day Trip with Shelby Denton

Day 1 

We start drift and collected few nice reef fish. First 2 hour we shot bluefin trevally, unicorn fish for edi and his family. 

Second spot it was quiet in the begining but then the fish become active. We shot seabream, red snapper and flowery cod. I lost longnose emperor due to a really bad shot.

After dive we ask the chef from the hotel to cook us our catch. It was amazing, the chef prepare fish sate, fish steam in a banana leaf and grilled seabream.

Day 2 

We visit the FAD aka Rumpon to hunt for mahi mahi and wahoo. We were outamart by the wahoo and mahi mahi due to the unfriendly ocean conditions. We saw lots of wahoo and mahi mahi but miss all the shot. It was good 30 min of thrills but better luck next time.

We started the day with some basic Freediving and spearfishing technique to hunt at the shallow for some yummy Reef fish. After 1 hour of practicing we took the gun out and start hunting fish. They were both natural hunter, which both were suprise of their abilities.  

After the dive we all went to the local Restaurnt and my favorite Chef Cook 3 different Balinesse recipe out of the fish. Fish Sate, Steam fish wrap with banana with balinesse bumbu, Grilled fish and whole Steamed grouper. The food was acompany with Red rice , sambal matah and Balinesse vegetables.

Day trip with Jessica and Clint Whatmans Eastern part of Bali

When we started the dive the visibilty was amazing, i could see atleast 30-40 meter deep. Bait fish was greeting us and as soon as i see the rainbow runner i dive, but didn't see any Spanish Mackerel or wahoo, but as soon i swim up i saw a good size spanish heading passing me so i dive down again but i was on my last breath so i have to let it go and hopefully shoot it next time.

We did few long 1 hour drift but no sign of wahoo or Spanish mackerel. We saw lots of Unicorn fish but no sign of GT, or reef fish. Toward low tide the condition improve we started seing more life. Lots of rainbow runner and big school of unicorn fish. Not long after we start shooting the fish we came for. We got Wahoo and Spanish mackerel.

Rumpon

My First Rumpon Experience was unforgettable experience. Only slept 3 hours,  It took us 2.5 hour to go to the Rumpon, plus our heart was pounding from excitement and we were surrounded with Yellowfin Tuna and Skipjack.  We left the fishing village at 3:00 am and reach the first rumpon/FAD at 5:30 am. We were to early because it was dark, but the 30 minute wait was worth it. All the sudden the surface was bubbling from all the bait fish being attack by Yellowfin Tuna and Skipjack.

The size 90 double rubber speargun didn't really help , 110 3 rubber also was useless because it was undersize, and we had zero experience.  We still caught the tuna but by using Handline with life fish bait. From that first experience i never stop going back to the rumpon. Is the best spot to catch pelagic fish:  Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Spanish Mackerel, Tripppletail, Rainbow Runner and Mahi Mahi.

This year i lost a rumpon so i decide to make another rumpon little bit further from before. Hopefully with my experience and a lots of planning we will shot few Yellowfin tuna and sailfish and of course a lot more Wahoo and Mahi Mahi in the cooler Bag!!

The process took 2 weeks to build the Rumpon. We need to order the rope from a shop in Denpasar and it took us 1 week to buy one because they need to delivered from Jakarta. The concrete anchor will take several days to properly dry.  The construction of the rumpon platform only take 2 days.  Once we completed the Rumpon we made a small ceremony will simple offering to the gods and holy Hindu priest to lead the prayers. The next day the rumpon was escorted by 12 Traditional boats to position. The location is famous for the migration route for the famous Yellowfin tuna and Billfish.

North Bali Reef

Meet up at the office Jason Daccache  and Luke Hockey to hunt up North. We drive for 2 hour and arrive early at the Village where we will take the boat.

We start the dive by drift diving hunting for doggies at drop off ledges. No sign of doggies only small little puppies that  was swimming close to surface. Then we decided to go to the seamount to hunt Reef fishes. We saw lots of midnight snapper but not close enough for shooting range. Saw few Longnose emperor but they are just teasing us.

Then we continue for drift dive on the shallow reef to hunt Maori search and GT's. Shot few Maori Seaperch but didn't manage to see big GT or Trevally only small ones.

We save the best spot for last the GT beach Club spot. The condition was good but the current was little bit to weak and far offshore. But we manage to see few species of Trevally but again was too small. Saw one big GT but it sprint like bullet train. Not long before we call it a day i spotted a good size Longnose Emperor and nail it!

To sum up the trip, it was such a good trip to be surrounded by positive people with amazing vibes, energy, stories and experiences. I learnt that day by appreciating small things can add up your day to successful trips. Thanks a lot boys looking forward to see you guy in Australia.

Dedicated to Jukung, our main sea transporataion

A jukung or canoe is a small wooden Indonesian outrigger. It is a traditional fishing boat, and a vehicle for small groups of divers. a jukung is superb in its reaching ability and jibe-safe running.

4 Day Spearfishing trip with Mr Thouvenot: Day 3

After 2 day in row Spearfishing, We are quiet sored but in the same time we are both warmed-up and pumped-up for more action.

There is another spot before GT beach house that have big GT and Seaperch lurking at the reef. We start drifting following the current. Visibility was not favorable, but toward the day it got better and we start being more life.

Not long after i saw 2 big GT swim below me. quickly dove and shot one of them. I kind of regret doing it because it was a beautiful fish. But i cannot help my hunting instinct to shoot it and take it home to share for my family and friends.

The shot miss the spine by 1 cm. The fish give a good fight, almost drown countless time because i was using Rob Allen 120 Reel gun and i ran out of line. lucky after 8 minute tug war with the GT wrap around big rock and got stuck.

It took me literally 15 minute to slow down my breathing and heart beat. The beast really work me up and taught me shitloads of lesson to be learnt!

went down and took second shot to end the misery of the magnificent beast. Big relief when we finally rest the GT onboard the jukung. Edi (captain of the juking) face was priceless, full of Joy and shock.

4 Day Spearfishing trip with Mr Thouvenot: Day 1

Day 1:

We arrive before lunch time and it was quiet and easy relaxing drive from Denpasar to North Bali.

We check in to the villa and waste no time to jump in Boat to hunt some pelagic at the FAD. The first FAD the water visibility was really bad due to the storm but the first dive i manage to shoot 12kg  mahi mahi. It give a good fight but thanks to the FAD it stop it from swimming everywhere witht the line.

Second FAD we saw school of wahoo but they kept their distance. Many smaller mahi mahi but also they kept their distance. 

We decide to leave the FAD due to the incoming storm and headed to reef. The reef visibility was 5-10 meter and all the fish were sleeping. We decided to call it a day.

Day 2: Dog Town

Primary Mission of this trip is to locate the famous Dogtooth Tuna aka the bouy snatcher!! We woke up extra early in the morning to prepare ourself for some extreme spearfishing.
 Hubert prepare mix blend juice for the power boost to land a 100lb Doggy!! all the other preparing the bouy 25ps and 30 ps. we can see each other face that we are about to experience some crazy shit underwater. it was very hard to relax and calm ourself because the anticipation in out of the hook!!

in the other hand, the weather is very promising but diving close to New moon is asking for strong current and we damn know it! those monster love current and dangerous places for human to dive.

Luckly we have Indra aka banana Hammock to cheers us with his funny jokes and story about his experiences. i think we wasted a lot of precious energy from laughing so hard to Indra's story.

when we arrive just from looking at the spot we know we arrive at DOG TOWN yeaww! We gear up tangling with each other bouy line, stressing out just to get out of the boat without get caught with each other line. Landing doggy = lots of bouy+float line min 30 meter + bunny line 1-3 pcs + strong speargun (guns with reputation worldwide-no room for local gun) + lastly 3 big Balls on ur sack!

the first and second dive we all were greeted by several different species of trevally. GT monster size, bluefin trivially, bigeye trivially and golden trevally. Hubert Haciski, he was a machine, he kill all 4 different trivially species.  Brett and Indra shot monster size Green Jobfish aka Uku. Brett also manage to land small puppy and saw Whale shark while pulling the doggy.

Overall it was a great day in the office, no big Doggy but we saw a giant spanish mackerel, Few good size doggy but couldn't get closed.

Day 1: spearfishing East Indonesia

We plan the trip 1 month ago and is finally in place, adrenaline already pumping and we are not even in the water yet, that how stoke e are about this dream trip. After a long day to get to our accomadation. We all need  a good night sleep to start 5 day nonstop spearfishing action (exceptional for Hubert he is still young and he doesn't need any sleep to hunt Doggy dogg)

First day visibilty was not in our favor. First spot no fish was at home but we saw few Sneaky maori seaperch and mangrove jack. Brett shot one and i miss one, the other shot some reef fish.

We decide to move to a protected bay for better visibilty and also to get protected from the strong wind.

The visibility was better but we didn't see much live underwater. Over all it was good warming up and get a taste what is waiting in the other corner of the bay, DOG TOWN!!!

Nothing is better to enjoy the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the  beautiful view of the Beach and string swimming suits...
